Udupi, Mar 27: Media plays vital role in identifying the rural talents to shine in international competitions, said Kaup MLA Lalaji R Mendon.
MLA Lalaji was speaking after inaugurating daylong seminar on media role in sports enhancement held under the aegis of physical department of Mulki Sundar Ram Shetty (MSRS) College at the college auditorium, here on Saturday March 26.
The rural talents are shining in both the national and international levels. Ashwini Chidanand Shetty and Mamata Poojary, who bagged gold in the recently held Commonwealth and Asian Games were belongs to coastal district, added MLA Lalaji.
Meanwhile, MLA Lalaji urged the youth to get inspired of both Ashwini Chidanand Shetty and Mamata Poojary in order to excel in sports, he urged.
A V Balakrishna Holla, editor of Udayavani, Kannada daily in his chief guest’s address said that the media does not show any partiality in identifying the talent. It has been encouraging all sorts of talent. The people’s representatives, entrepreneurs, voluntary organizations and social welfare organizations including government need to support such talent, said Balakrishna Holla.
Bangalore University retired dean Professor L R Vaidyanathan in his keynote address said that India has a large following of cricketers. The media serves as a platform for the athletes, both sportsmen and sportswomen to excel in their respective field, said Professor Vaidyanathan.
