Bantwal: Ramanath Rai Resents Failure in Site Distribution, Ration Cards

Bantwal, Mar 25: Bantwal MLA, B Ramanath Rai, took the taluk administration to task for not identifying and distributing house sites to the landless, and not properly distributing the ration cards. He also expressed anger at the fact that those who were issued title deeds, were not allotted lands by properly identifying and segregating them.

Rai was speaking at the meeting of Karnataka Development Programme, which he presided. He also was livid at the fact that the taluk tasildar was not available at the meeting to answer his queries. The tahsildar had accompanied the district deputy commissioner, who was on a visit to the taluk on Thursday, in his tour.

“A list of 3,413 landless families was submitted to the government. Nothing has been done so far. For people’s representatives, addressing the genuine problems of poor people has become impossible,” Rai commented. In reply, deputy tahsildar, Divakar, informed that the government has issued a circular, asking the administration to provide sites to 50 beneficiaries in every gram panchayat.

When some members said that drinking water shortage has become rampant in the taluk because of the non-formation of the Task Force Committee, and that only one tube well was dug in Veerakambha village, where  workers from a particular political party were present, a verbal friction arose between members belonging to the ruling and opposition parties.

Taluk panchayat president, Shylaja P Shetty, vice-president, Dinesh Amtoor, and standing committee chairperson, Madhava Mave, were present. A number of zilla panchayat members also participated in the discussions.
