Bangalore, Mar 25 (IANS): A Bangalore court Thursday ordered police to probe a complaint that Karnataka Home Minister R. Ashoka has illegally acquired land in south Bangalore.
The probe will be conducted by the police attached to the state Lokayukta (ombudsman) within six weeks, Additional Civil and Sessions Court judge C.B. Hipparagi said.
The complaint has been filed by M. Manjunath, who informed Hipparagi that he got details of Ashoka's land acquisition using the Right to Information Act.
The complaint alleged that Ashoka got about half acre of land, which was in possession of the state-run Bangalore Development Authority since 1978, registered in his name in two installments in 2003 and 2007.
And in 2009, when he became the home minister, Ashoka denotified the land (freed from BDA control), the complaint said and contended that this was a case of a minister "misusing" his powers.
