Udupi: Four Injured in Volvo Bus-Car Collision near Padubidri

Udupi, Mar 24: Four persons were injured, three of them seriously, after the car in which they were travelling was hit by a government Volvo bus moving between Manipal and Mangalore. The accident occurred on Wednesday March 23 evening opposite the dhaba located in Hejmady on national highway 17.

Prasad Padmashali (43), his wife, Sheetal Padmashali (32), son, Shreyas (6) and car driver, Rajesh (31) from Dambel Mangalore, were injured in the accident.  Shreyas, Sheetal and Prasad suffered head injuries, while the driver escaped with minor injuries. The injuries to Shreyas are of critical nature, it is gathered. Rajesh, in front of whose shop the accident occurred, took steps to immediately transport the injured to a hospital in Mangalore.

The family, which resides in Vasai Mumbai, had been to Madikeri to visit a relative’s family there. They were coming to Yermal Tenka to participate in a feast organized at Prasad’s younger sister’s home on the occasion of Kaup Mari Puje.

The bus was trying to overtake a truck, when it hit the car coming from the opposite direction. The accident could not be avoided, as road widening work is in progress on both sides of the highway. A case was registered in Padubidri police station in this connection.
