Mangalore, Mar 24: Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner, Subodh Yadav, and city corporation commissioner, Dr K N Vijayaprakash, conducted a joint inspection of road works in progress at different parts of the city, on Wednesday March 23.
Both the officials visited Pumpwell Junction, Yekkur, Simon Lane and Red Building Lane near Capitanio, and Urundadigudde near Kavoor Panjimogaru in the city. Officials from various departments accompanied the officials.
The deputy commissioner instructed the national highway officials to build box culverts in place of huge pipes proposed to be laid for allowing water to pass through below the roads at Pumpwell Junction, where national highway 17 and 13 meet each other. Road widening work is in progress at this junction.
During the visit of the officials to Capitanio, local corporator, Jacinta Boromeo, accompanied by local residents, placed before them problems faced by them, apart from seeking fulfilments of certain demands. The city corporation commissioner told them that tender process has been completed in respect of conducting patch works to Simon Lane Road, and that this work will begin soon. He also assured to repair the Red Building Lane Road at the spot where it has been badly damaged.
When the engineers said that various works are being executed within the city corporation limits, but that the number of contractors was comparatively less, the deputy commissioner suggested to hand over works to Land Army Corporation. The commissioner also said that notices will be served on the concerned, about heaping of mud witnessed on the roadside on national highway. He feared that this mud will create problems in case of rains.
The officials also surveyed the proposed underground drainage effluent treatment plant at Yekkur and proposed slum development proposed at Urundadigudde.
