Beltangady, Mar 23: “The life-sustaining programmes that are undertaken for economically weaker people by voluntary organizations and small financial institutions essentially need far-sighted plans and disciplined execution in its implementation,” said Dr D Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari of Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala.
Dr Heggade was speaking after inaugurating ‘Life-sustaining Programmes – 2011’, a five-day national workshop, at Dharmasthala on Tuesday March 22. The workshop will conclude on Saturday March 27. The national workshop is being organized by SKDRDP under the aegis of Community Development Financial Institutions Federation (SADHAN), New Delhi.
“Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project (SKDRDP) has been helping small farmers achieve economic relevance in their small farm-holdings in stages. It has been involving the small farmers as partners in progress, in order to achieve self sufficiency in their programmes,” said Dr Heggade.
Twenty-three representatives from 10 small financial institutions across the nation are participating in the national workshop, and they will study the life-sustaining programmes undertaken by Pragatibandhu self-help-groups promoted by SKDRDP.
“The study will shed light on the controversy in Andhra Pradesh related to the working of small financial institutions, besides focusing on the challenges faced by small financial institutions in the backdrop of the Malegaon committee appointed by RBI,” added Dr Heggade.
SKDRDP chief executive officer Dr L H Manjunath welcomed the gathering and briefed about the significance of life-sustaining programmes promoted by SKDRDP and Rural Development and Self Employment Training (RUDSET) Institute.
