Mangalore: Passenger Ship Arrives at Local Port

Mangalore, Mar 22: A cruise vessel, M V Le Ponente, called on at the New Mangalore Port here from Kochi on Monday March 21. It reached the port on Monday morning, and left for Goa in the evening. This was the 14th passenger ship to touch the port during the financial year 2010-11.

Another passenger ship, M V Seabourn Sojourn, which had touched the local port on Sunday, was carrying 371 passengers and 352 crew members. Most of the passengers were from USA and England.

The port has registered impressive records in handling maximum number of passenger ships as well as cargo vessels during the current financial year.  New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) had handled 12,505 metric tonnes of urea brought by M V Low Land Sky ship on March 19. This has surpassed the previous highest cargo handling for a single ship registered on May 31, 2009.

Chairman of NMPT, P Tamilvanan, has expressed happiness about the new milestones achieved by the port with each passing year.
