Hassan, Mar 21: C D Mallikarjun (22), son of Deveerappa from Chaulahiriyoor in Chikmagalur district, who was a final year student of Malnad Engineering College in Hassan, drowned in a stream near Kushalnagar in Hassan district on Saturday March 19.

Mallikarjun had been to Sooranabbi stream along with three other class mates, as part of the team’s spot visit programme to prepare project report. While collecting data and information for the report at the spot, Mallikrajun suddenly slipped and drowned in the stream, it is learnt.

The deceased student’s father is an agent for several newspapers in Chaulahiriyoor village in Chikmagalur. With great difficulty, he had got his elder son, Mallikrajun, admitted into Malnad Engineering College in Hassan, and younger son, Somesh, into an engineering college in Bangalore.

Mallikarjun’s body was fished out of the stream on Sunday morning, and kept in the college hostel for enabling college students to pay their last respects. On Sunday evening, the body was dispatched to Chaulahiriyoor, where funeral was conducted.
