Eswarappa Describes Developments as 'unfortunate'

Shimoga , Mar 19 (PTI) : BJP's Karnataka unit President K S Eswarappa, who seem to have emerged as a rallying point for rebels, today admitted Ministers and MLAs have been facing ''some problems'' with Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa.

He, however, dismissed reports that the party and its government were beset by dissident activities in the wake of problems that surfaced between its legislators, ministers and the Chief Minister.

"There is absolutely no dissidence in the party but some MLAs and even ministers have expressed some problems which they are facing with the Chief Minister and this should not be construed as a revolt", Eswarappa told reporters here.

"This is really an unfortunate incident and should not have happened," he said. He also denied reports that rebels have started a signature campaign seeking removal of Yeddyurappa from the chief ministership.

The party is gearing up for April nine bye-election in three assembly constituencies. On March 15, more than 50 legislators had met Eswarappa and party's General Secretary Anantkumar and aired their grievances against Yeddyurappa.

A breakfast meeting called yesterday by Yeddyurappa to demonstrate his strength and to ease the situation failed to attract a majority of the party MLAs who chose to stay away from it, bringing to the fore simmerring discontent in the ruling party.
