Bantwal, Mar 18: After a painstakingly long wait which seemed perennial, the fly over in B C Road on national highway 48 was opened for trial run on Thursday March 17. The project, which was proposed in 2001, and works on which began in 2005, is in the final stages of its completion. With this, hopes of finding a permanent solution to frequent traffic jams at B C Road, have been kindled.
All the people using national highway 48, local people, owners and drivers of buses, rickshaws, trucks, policemen, and the others had been suffering because of traffic snarls at B C Road since long. Only some work at the connecting end of the fly over where it meets the national highway on the east remains to be attended to. At the same time, the work of fitting protective railings on both sides of the fly over appears to be haphazard, with gaps in between.
Problems have arisen, as a number of vehicles, shops on wheels dealing in fruits, eatables etc, have started using the space below the fly over. There is a need to build a proper bus stop here for the passengers to wait. At the same time, the system of vehicle parking needs to be streamlined, by segregating slots for three-wheelers, four-wheelers, and two-wheelers. The people also should contribute to the neatness of the town by not using the space below the fly over as a dumping yard.
