Focussed on Winning the Next Games: Bangladesh Coach

Chittagong, March 13 (IANS) Bangladesh coach Jamie Siddons Sunday said the team has moved on from the sweet victory against England and is focussed on winning the remaining league games to advance to the quarterfinal stage of the World Cup.

Bangladesh have four points from as many games in Group B and need to win against the Netherlands and South Africa to make the last eight cut. Their chances will brighten if England (on five points) lose their match against the West Indies Thursday.

Siddons is aware of the statistics but said the team's immediate goal is to win against the Dutch Monday.

"Every time we step on the field, we try to win," Siddons said on the eve of the match.

"Mathematically, if England win their next game, we can't get in, unless we win against South Africa, which is a very difficult task. We need to win the next two games and that is how we are approaching the situation."

Siddons warned his boys not to think about their net run-rate, which is only better than the bottom-placed Netherlands in Group B.

"We won't focus on the run-rate tomorrow. We have got to win the match, and then win against South Africa, and we are through. We need to execute our plans and make sure there are no slip-ups tomorrow and worry about the other results after that. Getting to the quarter-finals will be great, but we have to play good cricket."

The two wins against England and Ireland have been close contests and Siddons is pleased with the team coming good in crunch situations.

"I am really happy with the way we are winning the close games. It is starting to become a feature of our cricket. We do not give up easily. If we get within striking distance, we come out in front rather than lose those games now, which wasn't the case earlier," he said.
