Byndoor, Jun 18: A bag containing gold worth Rs 18 lac was stolen from the Mumbai-Mangaluru bus as the bus was stopped for tea break at Shiroor.
Eshwar Dalichand Porwal (48), a resident of Maharashtra is the victim of this crime. He buys gold from Mumbai and Hyderabad and sells the same in Mangaluru for the past 10 years. Accordingly, he had purchased gold from various shops of Mumbai weighing 466.960 grams worth Rs 18 lac and had kept it in a steel box and was going to Mangaluru.

The driver of the bus stopped the vehicle for lunch at Neergadde of Shiroor. The cleaner of the bus told the passengers who were having lunch that some strangers boarded the bus, checked a bag and then escaped in a white colour car. Eshwar immediately rushed to the bus and checked the bag which he had kept below the seat in the bus and it was missing. When he checked in the luggage compartment of the bus his suitcase was found in open condition with lock broken. The gold that was kept inside the suitcase was stolen.
A case in this connection is registered in Byndoor police station.
