Beltangady, Jun 15: In a tragic accident that occurred at 5 am on Wednesday June 15, on the road that leads to Dharmasthala bathing ghat, a bike rider was thrown off his vehicle as he rode his bike over a tree that had fallen on road and died on the spot.

Vasanth Kumar Jain (42), a resident of Odinlala Mugulichathra resident, is the unfortunate victim of this tragedy.

Vasanth used to run a hotel near Dharmasthala bathing ghat and was residing at Dharmasthala. When he was arriving to his hotel from home he rode the bike over the tree as he did not notice it fallen on the road.

Vasanth received grievous injuries to his head as he was not wearing a helmet and died on the spot as his head hit the road.

Odiyappa Gowda, sub inspector of Beltangady traffic police station visited the spot and undertook further formalities.

    time and again i have been commenting in this forum about the perils of driving in third world countries. no lights on roads, no safety signs etc etc...one has to be very very careful..that too two wheeler riding is like dancing with death...slowness and wearing helmet would have saved his life. Rip bro...

    I do not agree ..None of the so called "developed nations" will have street lights on non urban highway areas ..Anyways ..the fault in this case is obvious ..No Helmet. That said, the highways in Indian ghat sections and semi ghats is not fit for rides above 60kmph As such people here think that accelerating and moving the vehicle is driving .. The driving schools here need to redesign their training patterns ..the Road transport ministry should provide guidelines and see that it is implemented strictly with compliance audits and scoring for each driving schools and applicable departments which handle this activity.
