Udupi, Jun 11: Two people were arrested for stealing two-wheelers here.
The arrested are identified as Somashekar (21), a resident of Sindanoor taluk, Raichur and Shanker Gowda (23), a resident of Hunagunda taluk, Bagalkot district.
Udupi SP had ordered inspection of vehicles to prevent and identify theft of two-wheelers. When a special team under the leadership of Brahmavar police circle inspector Ananta Padmanabha consisting of Kota station PSI Madhu, PSI Mahanthesh, PSI Puneeth, ASI B Ravikumar, staff Raghavendra, Prasanna and Rajesh were inspecting vehicles and their documents at various places in Kota on June 9, they intercepted a suspicious motorcycle near the railway bridge at Vaddarse.
The two people on the vehicle could not produce the documents when they were asked to and it was found that the vehicle they were riding was stolen.
A case of vehicle theft has been registered against riders Somashekar and Shanker Gowda and they were arrested.
The duo is said to have been stealing two-wheelers since the last three years from Udupi, Chikkamagaluru, Davangere and Vijayanagar district. Kota police have cracked 12 cases of two-wheeler thefts with the arrest of the two.
Seven vehicles were stolen from Udupi station limits, one in Brahmavar, one in Shankaranarayana, one in Vijayanagara district and one in Davanagere station. Nine vehicles including three Pulsar bikes, five Splendor bikes and one Hero HF Deluxe were recovered from them. The cost of recovered bikes is approximately estimated at Rs 4,50,000.
Kota station investigation department’s PSI Pushpa, staff Krishna, Brahmavar circle office’s Pradeep Nayak and Udupi station staff Sathish, Santhosh Rathod, Kiran, Hanumantha, district police office technical department staff Dinesh also helped in cracking the case under directions and guidance from their senior officials.
District SP Vishnuvardhan has congratulated the team for having cracked the case.
