Kolkata, March 5 (IANS) Sixth-seeded Krishna Suresh of Andhra Pradesh toppled defending champion Ashutosh Singh to bag the men's singles crown while Maharashtra's Kyra Shroff clinched the women's singles honours at the National Grasscourt Tennis Championships here Saturday.
In a big serving match, Suresh got the better of Delhi's Ashutosh 6-4, 7-6(7-1) after a 92-minute fight at the Calcutta South Club.
Krishna took the first set breaking Singh in the seventh game. The second set went with serves to roll into the tie break where Krishna raced past Singh to claim the title.
Third seed Kyra took 95 minutes to outplay Madhya Pradesh's Aishwarya Agrawal 6-4, 6-1 in the women's singles final. In the first set, Shroff lost her serve in the very first game but broke back in the eighth. Again she broke Agrawal in the tenth to take the set in 55 minutes.
The second set lasted 38 minutes with Agrawal unable to save a single service game. The only game she got was when she again broke Shroff in the first game of second set. Aishwarya served two aces and five double faults while Shroff sent three apiece.
