Mangaluru: ACB sleuths catch MCC AEE red-handed while taking bribe

Mangaluru, June 2: The Anti Corruption Bureau sleuths conducted a raid on Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) office on Thursday, June 2. The sleuths paid a surprise visit to the the office of Ateeq Rehman, assistant executive engineer of the corporation accused of demanding a bribe.

The ACB team swung into action based on a complaint by Jayalingappa, son of Kallappa, Mandarabail, Konchadi against AEE Ateeq Rehman who had allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 3,000 to approve his work bill.

Ateeq Rehman fell into the ACB net red-handed while receiving a bribe money in the evening of Thursday. The accused has been taken into custody and is being questioned.

The operation was conducted under the leadership of ACB police station Dakshina Kannada ASP K C Prakash by police inspector Gururaj, Sham Sunder H M, staff Hariprasad, Radhakrishna K, Radhakrishna D A, Umesh, Vaishali, Ganganna, Adarsh, Rakesh, Bharath and Mohan Salian under guidance from ACB western zone SP C A Simon.

The team of officials is scrutinizing the department records.

    Selective Catch?? Tell me what work can you do at the MCC or at any Govt offices without bribe these days. You catch a person taking just rs.3000/- ? A small fish is caught while sharks and whales are still roaming free. Is this because official is from minority ? Let these ACB officials come in disguise to the MCC office pretending to be ordinary citizens and face and experience this bribery practice. Let DC send his officials in disguise to check on these un-ethical practices, they will know how it works.

    Please raid all the offices....mini vidhana Soudha, depts of water, pf....etc. Also, check their duty time. Working hours only four and half....that too they are not available on their seats...!! .Hmm

    Why doesn’t the ACB raid houses of MLA’s who have just changed parties after the elections? They are bound to get hard cash in crores but they are selective in their raids.

    Everyone knows crores passes thru -- only the pennies are picked up - Possibly ACB report card will show number of cases caught -- not amt & value of cases -- caught-- e,g --if they catch 100 persons with 3000/ it amounts to Three lakhs -- so the ACB evaluation will show good track record -- promotion etc -- 100 cases ---- --but fact is hypothetically --- a single officer in higher deals will take more than 20 lakhs bribe going upto crores --

    What is the use sir. He will re appointment in a different post in a different district and he will continue taking bribe. From many year many have been caught red handed. All are back in and working harder to achieve their goal.

    For every single job of mine I have been paying bribes to MCC officials for a long time now and nobody has been caught or arrested till now. Top to bottom everybody is taking bribes in MCC, the case being such why only single out one person and arrest him? This is not fair. The ACB guys, do they have guts even to touch a higher officer???
