Mangalore, Mar 3: The personnel of Excise Enforcement and Lottery Prohibition Squad here, arrested three persons from near Pumpwell in the city on Wednesday March 2, after finding them in illegal possession of Goan liquor valued at around Rs 1,08,000.
The arrested men have been identified as Chandrasenan (45) from Trissur, Kerala, Manjunath Naik (28), and Anant Naik (28), both from Bhatkal Kasageri. The policemen, who grew suspicious at nine gunny bags being transported in an auto rickshaw by the said three persons on Wednesday, checked the bags.
It is said that Chandrasenan, who works as a cook in a hotel in Goa, was asked by his boss to carry Goan liquor to Kerala for selling it there. The boss also provided funds for buying it. After buying liquor from Madgaon by using this money, Chandrasenan said he had, with the assistance of Manjunath and Anant, brought the liquor in a train to Kannkanady railway station. They were trying to carry the liquor to Kerala, when they were caught by the policemen. The policemen are now trying to nab Sanjeev, main accused in the case.
Inspector of the squad, B G Achar, sub-inspector, Narayan Byndoor, and other personnel were involved with the arrest. Western range excise deputy superintendent, Vishwanath Pandit, is supervising the investigation.
