Udupi, May 16: “The ruling BJP government is directly responsible for the death of Sahana Devadiga, native of Shriva. She killed herself as she was distraught at not finding a job. It is the duty of the government to provide suitable compensation to her family,” said Ashok Kumar Kodavoor, district Congress president.
Speaking at the press conference in the city on Monday, May 16, Kodavoor said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that his aim was to provide employment to two crore people every year. However, it turned out to be a lie. In the last five years, 40,000 youths have ended their lives. Under the regime of Modi, one young boy or girl is killing himself or herself every hour. Sahana is one of them. This is a clear evidence of the failure of the government.
“It is regrettable that Sahana, MBA graduate, who hails from a financially poor family of Moodubelle, Shirva, had to kill herself after repeated attempts of her to get a decent job failed. She has clearly mentioned in her death note that the government is directly responsible for her death and unemployment is the reason for her extreme step. The false promises of youth empowerment of the government are provoking the educated young generation to kill themselves.
“There are 60 crore young generation in the country who are below 25 and 18 years of age. Only 20% are getting employment. Only graduates are getting jobs and 80% are still hunting jobs. The main reasons for this is the unscientific financial policy of Modi government. During its regime of 70 years, Congress established various industries and corporations with a view of providing employment to the young generation. Because these enterprises were sold, employment generation has gone down to just 28%.
“In the past seven years, no new large scale industry has come up in the country. Lack of government’s will is responsible for this.
“This government, which is completely engrossed in corruption, has no time to give attention towards development. Due to this, government jobs are under the control of corrupt officials,” he said.
Spokesperson Bipin Chandra Pal, Kushal Shetty and Bhaskar Rao Kidiyoor were present.
