Udupi, Feb 23: Locals staged an innovative protest by planting flower plants, decorative plants, and banana plants along the access road to the crematorium at Heroor, near here, which comes under the jurisdiction of Chantaru gram panchayat on Tuesday February 22. It was staged to urge the local administration to undertake urgent repairs to the damaged road.
The protest was staged after many pleas of residents of Heroor seeking urgent repairs to the one kilometer stretch of access road to the Hindu crematorium went in vain. Although the zilla panchayat has released necessary funds to undertake repairs, by taking up the issue during the gram sabha and people’s interactive meets, the work has not begun so far.
Heroor Nagarika Horata Samiti led the unique protest of planting various flower plants on the damaged stretch of road on Tuesday. Sadashiva Shetty, secretary, Horata Samiti, cautioned the local administration that the protest will continue till the road is fully repaired.
Chantaru gram panchayat vice-president Dinakar Heroor, Raviraj Shetty, Harschandra Poojary, Chandravati, Umesh Shetty, members of Brahmavar public transport operators association, and members of Horata Samiti were present on the occasion.
