Mangalore, Feb 21: In an accident that occurred on Sunday February 20 morning near Gurpur, a motor bike rider was killed after being hit by a tempo carrying poultry birds. The victim has been identified as Deekshit (23), a resident of Kanjilakody Addoor near Gurpur.
Deekshit worked as sub-contractor for civil works and also as auto rickshaw driver. The tempo moving from Gurpur towards Kaikamba hit Deekshit, who was moving on the opposite direction. He was admitted into a hospital in the city with critical head injuries, but breathed his last later. Gopal, who was riding in the pillion, sustained minor injuries.
Deekshit, who used to work as sub-contractor till evening, operated rickshaw thereafter in Gurpur Kaikamba area. He was a noted theatre artiste. He was the only son of his parents, and is survived by parents and an elder sister. His father is a heart patient, and the family relied heavily on income earned by Deekshit for survival.
On Sunday, the auto rickshaw drivers of Gurpur Kaikamba area stayed off the roads as a mark of respect of their deceased colleague.
