Udupi, Feb 12: Rajya Sabha member, Oscar Fernandes, assured the people living in the vicinity of Udupi Power Corporation Ltd’s coal-based thermal power plant near Padubidri that he would hold discussions with the central ministers about the problems faced by them by the fly ash and other pollutants released by the said corporation. He was speaking after participating in a conference of Congress activists from Kaup constituency organized at Padubidri in the district, on Friday February 11.
He said that he would put in honest efforts to find solutions to these problems. Reacting to the problems created by the national highway widening work at some stretches, he said he would hold consultations with the union ministers on this issue too. When journalists drew his attention to certain remarks made about him by U R Sabhapathy, former MLA, who has decided to join the JDS, Oscar said that he has always treated Sabhapathy as his mentor and Guru. “I will treat whatever he says about me with humility, as words of guidance,” he commented.
Former minister, Vasant V Salian, speaking at the meeting, said that the main aim of the meeting was to strengthen the organizational structure of the party.
Blossom Fernandes, former district Congress president, M A Gafoor, Ashok Kodavoor of Congress Sevadal, and various other leaders were present.
