M’lore: Cordel Parish Hands over Holy Cross to Shaktinagar Parish for Onward Journey

Mangalore, Feb 10: A pilgrimage Holy Cross that was blessed by Bishop Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza after the Eucharistic procession at Rosario Cathedral grounds, here on Sunday February 6 was handed over to Holy Cross parish, Cordel on the same day.

It was venerated by the parishioners till Wednesday February 9 and again ceremoniously handed over to Mother of God parish, Shaktinagar, here on the same evening.

The blessisng of Holy Cross and the Eucharistic celebration among other rituals were performed as a part of 125th year of formation of Mangalore diocese.

Earlier, Fr Valerian Pinto, parish priest of Cordel received the pilgrimage Holy Cross from Bishop Dr Aloysius at Rosario Cathedral on Sunday evening and brought it to Cordel parish in a motorcade. The Cordel parish is on the threshold of centenary jubilee celebrations. 

The pilgrimage Holy Cross that was handed over to Shaktinagar parish will go round 158 parishes across the diocese.

    It is nice to learn that the Mangalore diocese is celebrating 125th year and on the occasion prayers are conducted in 158 parishes of the diocese. The Pilgrim cross is visiting all the churches. May the Holy Cross of Jesus reign in our hearts. The devotion could be done in wider spirituality making it memorable one to all catholics,since the Pilgrim cross is coming from the Bishops house. likewise the parishes will have a cross altar and devotion conducted by parish community. Each parishes send out crosses to parish varados. and devotion conducted by the varado families (to circulate in them). The families in their houses have a cross veneration altar and each catholic person will also wear a small cross during this period.The day the the pilgrim cross coming to the parish the varadoes and families bring their crosses to the parish for veneration with pilgrim cross. after the Pilgrim cross transfered to another parish the devotion will continue in the parish, varadoes and families. On the feast of Exaultation of the cross on Sept. 14 the pilgrim cross to reach back the diocese for solomn veneration by diocese families. The parish will take the cross, the varado take the crosses, the families head take the venerated cross and each person attending has venerated cross he/she was wearing. (Last note- please do not decorate the Pilgrim cross with flowers)also all the crusifix - no flowers please. Just look at Jesus on the cross. If we could do this this year lent will be special.
