Puttur, Feb 10: Speaking after inaugurating the post-centenary platinum jubilee celebrations of the government model higher primary school in Uppinangady in the taluk on Wednesday February 9, state primary and secondary education minister, Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri, stressed that the education India needs now, is one that whips up patriotism among the students, and gives rise to national awakening. The minister also renamed the school as ‘Sahukar Madhava Vaikuntha Bhat Memorial Government Model Higher Primary School’, apart from inaugurating computer system, new auditorium of the school, on the occasion.
For some time, Kageri also held interaction with the students about the syllabus, extra curricular activities, and quality of midday meals provided to them.
“We do not need the Mecalay pattern of education, which signifies bondage to the British. There is a need for education that gives rise to talented citizens in all fields. This school, which has completed 175 years of glorious service to the society, stands as a model school in the whole state,” he noted. He hailed old student of the school, U V Bhat, for donating Rs 30 lac towards building an auditorium, and urged other rich people to emulate him.
MLA, Mallika Prasad, presided over the programme. MP, Nalin Kumar Kateel, inaugurated new rooms. Minister, Krishna J Palemar, released the souvenir brought out on the occasion. Prabhakar Kalladka and Mallika Prasad felicitated U V Bhat couple, who have adopted the school.
Dakshina Kannada zilla panchayat president, K T Shylaja Bhat, zilla panchayat member, Puyila Keshava Gowda, director of the district institute of education and training, Philomena Lobo, headmaster of the school, Aitappa Naik, taluk panchayat member, Nandavar Umesh Shenoy, were present.
President of Post-centenary Platinum Jubilee Celebrations Committee, Biliyoorguttu Dhanyakumar Rai, welcomed. U G Radha proposed vote of thanks. Teacher, Pushpalata, presented the programme.
