Bangalore, Feb 6(TOI): Jnanabharathi police arrested cab driver Shivalingegowda alias Shivanna (37), a resident of Jnanajyothinagar, Ullalu Main Road for the murder of Indira alias Sukanya, a resident of Nagercoil in Tamil Nadu.
They recovered a saw allegedly used in the crime and some ornaments belonging to her. The accused hails from Bannikuppe village in Ramanagaram.
Shivalingegowda, who has been with Shivaraj Travels here for the past three years, would ferry tourists to Tamil Nadu. During one such visit, he struck up a friendship with Indira who ran a tea-stall in Nagercoil. Over the past three months, she pestered him to marry her. On January 22, he went to Nagercoil and brought her to Bangalore, promising to marry her and found a rented house in Ullalu.
Shivalingegowda's wife came to know about this and questioned him. Indira was taken aback by this and told Shivalingegowda to go with her to Tamil Nadu. Shivalingegowda took Indira to an isolated place in Bhavaninagar Railway Layout between 8.30pm and 9pm on February 1 and slit her throat using the saw and took her gold jewellery, weighing about 80gm.
