Panaji, Apr 15: The minister of social welfare and department officials will visit villages where the number of people belonging to the backward community is more and will help them avail of central and state schemes, chief minister Pramod Sawant said on Thursday, April 14.

He said that many have been deprived of state and central schemes.

The chief minister also announced that the foundation stone for a Ambedkar Bhavan at Porvorim will be laid and that construction work will commence this year. Land for the purpose was transferred to the social welfare department last year, he said.

Sawant said that people have been demanding for an Ambedkar Bhavan for the past three years. "Last year land was handed over to the social welfare department and the officers wanted me to lay the foundation stone then but I told them that we would lay the foundation stone when the tender is issued. This year, we will issue tender and lay the foundation stone," the chief minister said.
