Madikeri, Feb 3: Leader of the opposition in the state assembly, Siddaramaiah, said that Governors are not puppets in the hands of any government. He also accused the BJP leaders of launching a vilification campaign against the state Governor, overlooking the fact that he himself had administered oath of office to them.
Speaking at a ceremony organized here on the occasion of B T Pradip taking over charge as the president of Kodagu district Congress committee on Wednesday February 2, Siddu said that the Governor is the head of the government, and not Yeddyurappa. “The Governor is bound to discharge duties as per the constitutional provisions. He has permitted filing of suit against the Chief Minister, about a month after documents supporting allegations against the Chief Minister, were handed over to him. Before giving this permission, he was convinced that the allegations were true. The Chief Minister, who initially threatened to file defamation suit against the Governor, and also to approach the High Court, later kept quiet, realizing that such acts will boomerang,” he said.
Expressing his displeasure at the finding of the Justice B K Somashekhara Commission of Inquiry that has exonerated the Sangh Parivar outfits of the charges of their alleged involvement with church attacks in the state, he demanded for the matter to be referred to the Central Bureau of Investigation. He accused assembly speaker, K G Bopaiah, of behaving like a stooge of the state government. Repeatedly deriding ministers Halappa, Ramachandra Gowda, Katta Subrahmanya Naidu and Renukacharya, he said that the BJP government has looted crores of rupees from the state exchequer.
Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president, Dr G Parameshwar, said that Yeddyurappa is now trapped between the Raj Bhavan, Lokayukta, and the High Court. He predicted that it will be impossible for the Chief Minister to escape from this trap. Lampooning Yeddyurappa for the perception about threat to his life, he volunteered to send Congress Sevadal activists to protect him, if he needs protection.
On this occasion, former district Congress presidents, Nanaiah, M G Kuttappa, and Veena Achaiah, were honoured.
