Mangalore, Feb 2: M R Vasudeva, airport director of Mangalore and Prof M B Puranik, president of Sharada group of institutions, Mangalore, were unanimously elected as presidents of United Karnataka Chess Association, an official and affiliated body of All India chess Federation, in a recently held meeting of executive committee of UKCA.
Prof MB Puranik is the president of Sharada group of institutions which includes Sharada Vidyalaya, Sharada Pre-University College, Shubhodaya Vidyalaya, Sharada Vidyanikenthana residential public school and Sharada degree college.
Prof M B Puranik is also a social worker. He is the Vibhagh Sangh Chalak of RSS, Vibhagh president of Vishwa Hindu Parishat, DK dist president of Vidya Bharathi Akhila Bharatiya Shiksha Samsthan, president of Govaanithashraya trust, director of Gnana Bharathi Prakashan Ltd and Trustee of Bala Samrakshana Kendra.
Considering his incomparable social service, the government of Karnataka honoured him by conferring Rajyosthava award for the year 2011. He has a great passion for sports and particularly for chess.
M R Vasudev is the Mangalore airport director. He is the president of South Kanara District Chess Association. Under his able guidance SKDCA conducted a record no of official state and national level chess tournaments.
He is a chess player. He has played a major role in making Mangalore as a chess hub in the country.
Under the able guidance and leadership of M R Vasudev and M B Puranik the official governing chess body of State, United Karnataka Chess Association expects to reach new heights.
