MANGALORE, Feb 1: The Mangalore Fast Track Court has directed Chandra alias Chandrashekar (30) of Ira village in Bantwal taluk to five years rigorous imprisonment finding him guilty of murdering Prakash Bhat.
Chandra, bus cleaner, allegedly hit his colleague Bhat on his head with an iron rod on the night of October 16, 2009 at the Mangalore service bus station for monetary gains, leading to Bhat's death.
Ninge Gowda Janthila, the fast track court judge convicted Chandra based on the charge sheet filed by K Thilakchandra, police inspector of Mangalore South (Pandeshwar) police station in this case.
Life imprisonment
In a separate incident, the first additional district and sessions court judge Hanchette Sanjeeva Kumar has found Muhammad Faizal (19) of Pudu village in Bantwal taluk guilty of murdering Karan Singh, a resident of Rajasthan near Nehru Maidan, also for monetary gains.
The accused was sentenced to undergo life imprisonment and fined Rs 1,000. In case of default in paying the fine, the accused was directed to undergo six months additional imprisonment. Thilakchandra, PI, Mangalore South Police station filed the charge sheet in this case as well.
