Mangalore, Jan 31: Mahendra Shetty, a native of the city, has bagged the 56th Filmfare Award for cinematography, for his Hindi Movie, ‘Udaan’. The award was handed over to Shetty at a colourful function organized in Mumbai on the night of Saturday January 29.
‘Udaan’, a small-budget film with a number of new faces, has bagged a total of seven awards, including best dialogues, best story, and best supporting actor.
For Shetty, is the son of the late Dr J N Shetty, who was a doctor by profession and functioned as the director of Father Muller Centre for Post-\graduate Studies in the city. ‘Udaan’ happens to be his second film, as far as independent handling of cinematography is concerned.
After finishing high school education in the city, Mahendra had secured his BFA degree in Fine Arts from Chamaraja Academy of Visual Arts, Mysore. The first film that he had provided cinematography independently was ‘Super Star’, which was released in 2008. Before that, he had worked and got training as an assistant to a number of cinematographers.
