Mangalore : National Conference Of Catholic Journalists on Jan 29

MANGALORE, Jan 28 (SAR NEWS) : A National Conference of Catholic Journalists, Media and Communication Personnel will be organised at Shanthi Kiran Bajjodi, Mangalore, by the Indian Catholic Press Association (ICPA), Saturday, January 29, at 10 a.m.
Theme of the conference is “New Technologies: How India’s Youth Are Using Them Today.” Bishop Aloysius Paul D’Souza of Mangalore will preside over the inaugural session and bless the conference.
In the first session, the speakers are Hari Prasad Nadig of Sampada Net, and Meera of Citizen Matters, both from Bangalore. The moderator is Rev. Dr. Richard Rego. In the second session, the speakers are Father Harris of DBICA, Chennai, and Father Joshy of “Teenager” magazine, Mumbai.
Five national media ICPA awards will be presented on the occasion. The award carries a cash prize of Rs. 10,000 and a citation. Photography and poster competition for students has also been arranged on the occasion. The best entries will get cash prizes. The contest is open for students of all streams of graduation and post-graduation. Those who intend to participate in the contest should bring their own cameras and materials. The topics will be given on the spot.
The conference is supported by the Department of Mass Communication of St. Aloysius College, Mangalore, “Raknno” Konkanni weekly and Canara Communication Centre, Mangalore.
The Indian Catholic Press Association is a professional organisation of Catholic newspapers, periodicals, news agencies, publishing houses, working journalists and journalism teachers.
Founded in 1964 as a registered society, it promotes excellence and competence. It conducts annual meetings, conventions and regular training programmes for budding journalists in various parts of India. South Asian Religious News (SAR NEWS) is the news unit of the ICPA which provides accurate and speedy news and features to Christian periodicals, media personnel, organisations and general public.
Father Adolf Washington from Bangalore is the president of ICPA. Vincent D’Souza from Chennai is the vice-president and F.A. Nathan is the secretary.
