Barasat, Jan 25,(PTI): A district court today granted bail to India goalkeeper Arindam Bhattacharya who was arrested for allegedly roughing up a traffic constable.
Bhattacharya, who plays for Churchill Brothers in the I-League, stayed the entire day at the Khardah police station, but was granted bail after he showed signs of ill health.
"Doctors advised rest for him and he was released on a bail bond. He has been asked to appear before the Barrackpore courts on January 28," police sources said.
Bhattacharya, who has a history of bad behaviour, had an altercation with a traffic constable near Sodepur while he was travelling with his family from airport late on Sunday night.
According to reports, he violated a traffic signal and, during the alteraction, beat up the constable who had to be hospitalised at the Barasat General Hospital.
The family of the victim filed a complaint and the police, after confirming with eyewitnesses, arrsted Bhattacharya early this morning.
Bhattacharya had been previously arrested when an air hostess, employed with SpiceJet, accused the Churchill Brothers custodian along with two of his team-mates of molestation.
Bhattacharya again hit the headlines when he chased a few Mohun Bagan supporters out of the stadium after their match here.
Bhattacharya was part of India's squad for the Asian Cup in Doha.
