Bantwal, Jan 25: Assistant commissioner (AC) Prabhuling Kavalakatti assumed charge as administration officer of Kallurti Kshetra, Panolibail, near here, on Monday January 24, as per the directives of the state religious endowment department.

The religious endowment department took this action at the backdrop of complaints by Panolibail Abhivraddi Samiti led by Amembal Balappa against Kallurti Kshetra managing trustee Sacchidanand Hegde. The Samiti and Hegde have been at loggerheads over the temple’s administration since the past many years. The Samiti complained to the religious endowment department that despite a case in this regard being in the High Court (HC), Sacchidanand continued to carry on temple administration superseding the HC’s directive.

AC Kavalakatti arrived at Kallurti Kshetra on Monday and seized the temple records and sealed the safe, as per the instructions of the department. Although Hegde was notified to be present, he did not turn up.

Bantwal town police organized tight security. The revenue officials were present on the occasion.
