Mangalore, Jan 24: Abdul Rashid, vice president of the Ullal Central Masjid and Dargah Managing Committee, has resigned from his post. He has alleged that the president of the committee has been behaving like an autocrat, and indulging in irregularities and misuse of power.
Rashid, who has been a member and vice president of the committee since the last five years, said in his resignation letter addressed to the president that he has decided to resign because of the misdeeds of the latter.
“As per the bylaws, the term of the managing committee is five years. This term has already expired. A general body meeting should have been convened, the committee should have been dissolved, and election of new members and office bearers should have been conducted. Continuance of the same members and office bearers after the conclusion of the term of the committee is contrary to bylaw provisions,” he alleged.
Rashid has accused committee president, U K Monu, of getting involved with irregularities like deciding to purchase carpet from Koju Company without getting approval of the committee, purchasing teakwood from the mill of the Dargah president, among others. He said that because of these developments, the reputation of the managing committee of Ullal Dargah, which has come to be known as Ajmer of the south, has been sullied. Rashid also said that no person has been posted in the place of general secretary of the committee, R K Bava, even a year after his death, and that new members were not chosen in place of three members, who have lost their memberships after failing to attend meetings.
He has demanded for the convening of the general body meeting, forming of a new committee as per bylaws, dismissal of the present president, undertaking of an investigations into losses suffered because of the autocratic style of functioning of the president, etc. He also has requested that the Ullal Kazi should take over as the head of the committee till the new president is elected.
