Bantwal: Pillion Rider Dies in Accident

Bantwal, Jan 21: In a hit-and-run case that occurred at Melkar near here on Wednesday January 19, a person riding on the pillion of M80 two-wheeler, who was critically injured, breathed his last late night the same day at a hospital in Mangalore.

Jaya Poojary (40) from Vogga Kelinjakody in Kavalapadoor village was returning home after visiting the house of his in-laws in Kalladka, when the accident occurred. He is survived by wife and two young children.

Sunil Baretto (34), who was riding the vehicle, also was seriously injured. He is recovering in a private hospital in Mangalore. Baretto, a neighbour of Poojary, had carried the latter in his newly bought vehicle. The unidentified vehicle which hit the two, escaped from the scene of accident. The locals helped the injured persons to get admitted into a hospital.
