Panaji: Illegal structures demolished by Mormugao municipality

Panaji, Mar 17: Workers of Momugao municipality in conjunction with a demolition squad, cleared encroachments at Kariawada of Vasco on the morning of Wednesday, March 16.

Roadside structures that were built illegally were demolished as per court order. Around 18 structures in total were brought down. Police, Municipal engineers and inspectors were present during the operation.

Families who occupied the encroached buildings tried to stop the demolition work, but were brought under control by the cops. The residents of the demolished buildings said that they were fighting battle for regularization of the building since 20 years.

According to a local resident, municipality demolished the whole structure instead of just demolishing the extended part of the buildings.

The demolition drive will also continue on Thursday as per the information provided by Jayant Tari, chief officer of Mormugao Municipality.
