Bantwal: Boy dies, father serious in lorry-two-wheeler collision

Bantwal, Mar 8: After a lorry hit a two-wheeler in which a father-son duo was travelling, the boy, who suffered grave injuries, lost his life. His father survived with critical injuries. This accident took place on Monday March 7 near Kere, Gadiyara, on national highway 75.

The boy who breathed his last due to injuries he suffered in the said accident was Adwait D Shetty (11), son of Dinesh Shetty and a sixth standard student. He was rushed to a hospital in Thumbe with serious injuries but he did not survive. His father, Dinesh Shetty, was admitted into a local hospital.

Adwait was a student of Eisdom School, Budoli. He was returning home after school in the two-wheeler driven by his father when a lorry that was moving towards Bengaluru hit the duo and escaped. The locals found the vehicle near Nellyadi. The scooter was badly mangled in the accident.

    Karnataka, especially DK, can be termed as the accident capital of India. With such a small population, the fatal accident rate is very high especially two wheelers. IMHO, two wheelers are a strict no-no in DK as the risk of perishing in an accident is extremely high; even a congested metro like Mumbai doesn't have even a small percentage of such accidents. In fact DK has lost all its charm on all counts; it's no more a desirable place to settle down.

    RIP to young soul. Any traffic accident is tragic. No one drives or rides to die but unforeseen circumstances arise at times. We can only be a bit more cautious and ride within safe limits.

    In 98 percentage cases 2 wheeler drivers are not driving cautiously .,They are simply accelerating and moving the vehicle to the intended destination without any effort and alertness. Om Shanthi.

    sense Shetty mangalore ,it is clearly said ,lorry hit the the two wheeler .Whether boy too was wearing a Helm dont know.Still our mangalore is having three times more vehicles than population .many of them two wheelers. Shame on the driver who hit and ran like coward.Didnt help or not stopped after a accident.May his soul rest in peace.Heartfelt sympathy the parents.If all parents go to fetch their children in the evening ,no wonder will be a chaos.

    Karnataka is "nataka". Our Bombay is a zillion times better when it comes to traffic discipline compared to the vernacular backward class locales who adopt a care a damn attitude when it comes to driving on the roads. I will say the coastal region has gone to the dogs and will never improve because they are uneducated and don't want to change. If one were to see the number of accidents due to rash driving put together it would spiral in the excess of several thousand fatalities ...more than all the fatalities of metros put together (Bombay, Madras, Delhi and Calcutta). Coastal Karnataka is a living hell.
