Mysuru, Mar 7: Chamundi Hills is one of the most favourite weekend spots in city and people throng the place in large numbers on Sundays. Chamundi Hills which is at a height of 1063 meters from sea level is one of the famous tourist and picnic spots here.
The people from city and nearby areas visit the hills to get the darshan of Goddess Chamundeshwari as well as get the scenic view of the city and palace from the hills. Many Muslim women also visit the spot wearing burqa and hijab.The Hindu devotees who visit Chamundi Hills said that they do not have any issues with Muslim women wearing Hijab or burqa.
Like every devotee, even women who wear burqas apply Kumkum to the steps of the hills. A Muslim girl said that she gets thrilled when she watches the idol of Nandi.
Some of the burqua-clad Muslim women climbing the steps of the plateau beneath the Chamundi Hills said, "It does not matter that a big issue over wearing of burqa and hijab is going on in the state. The enjoyment we get by visiting Chamundi Hills on Sundays, keeps us in good spirits throughout the week. Spending a whole day in Chamundi Hills surrounded by nature gives us immense joy.”
In addition to Chamundi Hills, religious harmony can be seen in other famous temples of the city. One can see burqa clad Muslim women visiting Kote Anjaneyaswamy temple in Mysuru Palace premises and Maramma temples. The Muslims of Mysuru still get the sacred thread tied to their hands when they are sick and also get their new vehicle blessed by priests of the temple after trying lemon and green chilli to it.
The trusts or administrative committees or the Hindu temples do not have any problem with Muslim women of the city visiting the temples of Anjaneya Swamy or Maramma wearing hijab. Usually the Muslim women get thread tied to the hands or waist of their children in these temples.The intelligent citizens of Mysuru say that the communal harmony of Mysuru should be a model to the whole state and country.
