Karwar, Jan 10: Out of the eight persons, who were arrested by the Malaysian government in Kuala Lumpur on charges of possessing 32 Indian passports illegally, the local policemen have taken six persons into custody for questioning. They had returned to India after being released by the Malaysian government after two weeks.

The arrested persons have been identified as Mohammed Younus Ali Akbar (34), Sajid Ahmed Ikkeri (39), Mohammed Sadiq Damda (35), Mohammed Yousuf Misbah (36), Younus Salim Misbah (30), and Mohammed Ghouse Cuppa (40), all residents of Bhatkal. Reportedly, the other two accused, Mohammed Salim Mohammed Iqbal from Bhatkal, and Ashish Aggarval from Bangalore, are absconding.

These arrests were made by the policemen of the district crime intelligence bureau, based on information received from central intelligence. It is gathered that all these eight men had been arrested in Malaysia by the government there on December 16, and that they were released  two weeks later, after confiscating 32 Indian passports they had with them. There is no information as to whether these passports were fake. It is also not clear whether they had obtained fake passports for themselves from some place in India.

Inspector of district intelligence bureau, Aravind Kalagujji, and other personnel, visited Bhatkal and made the above arrests with the help of the policemen here. Based on a complaint filed by circle police inspector, Guru Mattoor, a case was registered in the local police station. Further investigation is on.
