Puttur, Feb 25: The central government is expected to start the execution of the mega tunnel road which is expected to be built through the Shiradi Ghat.
Union minister for surface transport and highways, Nitin Gadkari, will be arriving here on February 28. He will be unveiling a number of road projects. He will announce some new projects, and Shiradi Ghat tunnel road is one among them.
Already, the highway widening project worth Rs 1,500 crore from B C road to Addahole has been taken up. The tunnel will begin at Addahole and will pass through the ghat. MLA Sanjeeva Matandoor said that Gadkari is expected to announce this project worth Rs 15,000 crore.
The tunnel with a length of 23.6 km will be the alternative for the 37 km long Ghat road. A Japanese company had undertaken a detailed survey and a detailed project report was prepared. The department of surface transport has received all the details and principle nod has been given for the project. Once the official sanction is conveyed, the tender process will begin.
