Puttur: Gadkari likely to announce mega tunnel project in Shiradi Ghat

Puttur, Feb 25: The central government is expected to start the execution of the mega tunnel road which is expected to be built through the Shiradi Ghat.

Union minister for surface transport and highways, Nitin Gadkari, will be arriving here on February 28. He will be unveiling a number of road projects. He will announce some new projects, and Shiradi Ghat tunnel road is one among them.

Already, the highway widening project worth Rs 1,500 crore from B C road to Addahole has been taken up. The tunnel will begin at Addahole and will pass through the ghat. MLA Sanjeeva Matandoor said that Gadkari is expected to announce this project worth Rs 15,000 crore.

The tunnel with a length of 23.6 km will be the alternative for the 37 km long Ghat road. A Japanese company had undertaken a detailed survey and a detailed project report was prepared. The department of surface transport has received all the details and principle nod has been given for the project. Once the official sanction is conveyed, the tender process will begin.

    Benefit is we will save on fuel charges, our life will be relatively safe as bad roads of ghats have enough accidents and lose of life, our time of travel will reduce and our vehicle wear and tear will reduce. for this if we pay few Rupees as user fees is justifiable. Let's all pray that, this project will take up and complete within our life time . above all this is a small investment from this generation for a good roads for our children .

    Instead of spending huge amount to shiradi that tunnel, the railway department should have constructed railway double line from Mangalore to Bangalore and introduced passenger trains to and fro multiple times which would have saved fuel, time and people's money. Who will advice these corrupt politicians and who will need to national interests.

    DK private bus lobby is politically strong and they have repeatedly prevented any further improvements for Bangalore -Mangalore railway line & ensured that journey by train is painfully slower compared to buses. BJP might have received part of those Rs.5000cr donations from private bus owners & thats the reason Modi govt. is aggressively pushing for road projects while neglecting railways.

    The Shiradi Tunnel project and expressway till Bengaluru backend work is all done by. Dr. Oscar Fernandes, but after his term end 2014, development of this road came to a full stop, We The buddiwanta zille people should pray gadkari to maintain quality and get this Mangaluru Bengaluru access control expressway with shiradi tunnel to complete on time, and also ask to investigate the quality of nh66 talapady to shivaghad , toll mafia but no road maintenance. Nor genuinely service provided. Lastly Like attal tunnel this Shiradi Tunnel should be named as Oscar Tunnel

    Konkan railway which was the sweat,blood snd gift of George Ferandes, Congress government totaly neglected him and didnot name it after him.. It was a news and great surprise to know that Oscar Fernandes had proposed this idea. He was the PA of Inder Gandhi and could not even get one road tarred in Udupi, the constituency from which he was elected several time. It would have been aeighth wonder if he had even initiated some work on this project The most useless MP of Dakishna Kannada distrct.
