Mangalore: Plastic Ban within Corporation Limits

Mangalore, Jan 6: Through an order, city corporation commissioner, Dr K N Vijayaprakash, has banned use of certain varieties of plastic bags as mentioned in the notification issued by the forest department, within the city corporation limits.

The notification has banned use of plastic bags having a thickness of less than 20 microns. The plastic bags used should have a minimum width of eight inches and minimum length of 12 inches. Weight of 50 such bags should not be less than 105 grams. Recycled plastic bags should not be used under any circumstances, as per the order.

The commissioner has warned hotels, shops, bakeries and other establishments within the city limits, to strictly adhere to this order and not to use banned plastic bags. He said that violators will be proceeded against as per legal provisions.
