Mangalore, Jan 6: Dakshina Kannada district BJP president, Padmanabha Kottary, claimed that his party has never tried to win elections through deceitful means. At the same time, he accused the Congress of always resorting to dubious ways to ensure its victory since the last 60 years. He asked the Congress leaders to keep this in mind before slinging mud at others. He was addressing a press conference here on Wednesday January 5.
He refuted the allegations of the district Congress president, that the BJP was behind deletion of scores of names from the voters list, and that it had come out victorious by adopting unacceptable ways. “We do not need such practices. Hundreds of our own voters have found that their names have been deleted. We have already filed complaint with the electoral officers about this mistake. The Congress, for which it has become habitual to try to sabotage election results, has continued with its old tactics during this election too,” he said.
He accused the opposition of having been dismayed about the development initiatives and popularity of the BJP, and of making false allegations about the government with the aim of destabilizing it. He felt that the voters have given a fitting reply to the ulterior motives of the Congress.
He said that his party had suffered setbacks in certain constituencies because of the changed reservation criteria. He also confessed that in Goltamajal constituency, which has been the traditional bastion of the BJP, the party did not make additional efforts, as it was confident of becoming victorious there. At the same time, he accused the Congress of distributing lot of money in this constituency among the voters.
He said that the BJP will bring pressure on the union and state governments to increase the support price for areca nut, as the farmers growing this crop are facing lot of losses due to fallen prices.
MLA, N Yogish Bhat, MLC, Capt Ganesh Karnik, Coastal Development Authority chairman, B Nagaraj Shetty, Karnataka Fisheries Development Corporation chairman, Nitin Kumar, and several party office bearers were present at the press conference.
