Udupi, Feb 22: Three persons have been arrested by Malpe police in connection to the mob attack on the restaurant owned by the father of a petitioner in the Hijab case and assault on her brother.
The arrested have been identified as Deepak Kumar, Manoj and Sanilraj.
Late night on Monday February 21, a mob of around 50 people reportedly belonging to right-wing outfits had pelted stones at 'Bismillah Hotel' belonging to Hyder Ali, father of Shifa, a college girl who approached the high court over the Hijab issue. A few people who were part of the mob also allegedly assaulted Shifa's brother Saif who was later admitted to hospital.
The Campus Front of India meanwhile has claimed that MLA Raghupati Bhat had a role to play in the attack. "There is suspicion that MLA Raghupathi Bhat might have had a hand in the incident in which the family member of a student involved with Hijab controversy was attacked. About six persons had together beaten up the family members," CFI district president Aseel Akram had said.
