Mangalore, Dec 28: With a view to sustain the natural charm of Kadri Park in the city, and towards initiatives to make it litter-free, Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner, Subodh Yadav, has banned use of plastic within the park limits. He issued instructions to officials of the department of horticulture to display boards inside the park, alerting and educating the visitors not to use plastic inside the park.
On Monday December 27, Yadav visited the park and inspected ongoing development works. He also instructed the engineer concerned for the early completion of compound wall being built by the side of the national highway at a cost of Rs 30 lac, to hasten the work. In addition, he asked the deputy director of women and child welfare department to ensure that the toy train in the park starts functioning within the next 20 days. Noting that the city corporation has put the condition of the maintenance of the shed and the train to the contractor, he asked the corporation engineer to ensure that the high mast light and other electric connections function properly, and that the area is maintained neatly.
The deputy commissioner took serious note of non-maintenance of Boat Lake on the other end of the park, and non-disposal of waste properly. He wanted the city corporation to work more effectively in keeping the park free of any garbage. After lending an ear to the technical problems the development programmes of the park are facing, he said he would discuss all these issues with the director of the department of horticulture.
Noting that a proposal to develop the park at a cost of Rs 16 crore is under consideration, he asked the concerned to put up proposal to even the secretary in the department of urban development to give the proposal the required momentum.
He asked the tahsildar to set aside 1.25 acres out of 2.88 acres of government land in survey No. 178/1 in Derebail village for the construction of Ambedkar Bhavan, after visiting the site along with the officials of the social welfare department, officials of the district backward classes and minorities department and Mescom. He wanted land also to be earmarked for the construction of a radio pavilion, for the connecting road, and an additional land measuring between 40 and 50 cents, to Mescom.
