Udupi, Dec 27: The election meetings proposed to be organized in the district on Sunday December 26, which were to be addressed by former state Chief Ministers, H D Kumaraswamy and S Bangarappa, failed to materialize. Both of them cancelled the meetings.
Along with speaking at a meeting in Brahmavar, the duo was expected to address voters at Hejmady, Kota, and Vandse in the district. While Bangarappa did not attend any of the programmes scheduled in the twin-districts, Kumaraswamy participated in the meetings held in Dakshina Kannada district.
Sources said that Kumaraswamy cancelled the programme as he had to rush to Haveri, and also because of inclement weather. No explanations however, came forth about the absence of Bangarappa.
The fact that Siddaramiah has once again remained passive in electioneering work, has given some credence to the rumours that he is thinking of going back to his parent party, JDS. These rumours got strengthened further because of the fact that Siddu chose to remain absent from electioneering meetings held by the Congress in Tarikere in Chikmagalur district, and Brahmavar in Udupi district.
There are rumours that Siddaramaiah is in consultation with Kumaraswamy about his possible return to the JDS, and that he may join that party, basing on the results of the zilla and panchayat elections. Siddaramaiah, who had been bitterly critical of Deve Gowda in the past, accusing the latter of robbing his chances of becoming a Chief Minister, has of late, fallen silent on this issue.
