Mangalore, Dec 24: Founder Fr R F C Mascarenhas formed the congregation in the state with the motive to serve the needy, which has now spread all over the country apart from parts of Europe and Africa, said Sr M Wilberta, the superior general of Bethany congregation.
She was speaking at the 50th death anniversary of the founder observed by the institution here on Friday december 24. The congregation members apart from working in the field of faith formation, also lend a helping hand to the society with medical assistance, caring for elderly and undertaking similar social service activities, she said. Empowerment of women and education of the less-privileged, specially the girl child, was his goal,” she added.
In her Christmas message, Sr Wilberta called upon the Mangaloreans to be the messengers of peace and harmony.
Sr M Lillis said his home has been converted into a museum in his memory, which is also open for the public.
The Memorial houses the published works of monsignor R F C Mascarenhas, the first bible he translated into konkani and his family photographs among others. Besides, the founder’s relics too have been placed inside the house and there's been a practice among the nuns to pray to the msgr.
Sr Assumpta and Sr M Rose Celine too were present.
