Sullia: Ignoring Minority Candidates - Shahid Lashes at Congress Leaders

Daijiworld Media Network – Sullia (SP)

Sullia, Dec 23: Member of Central Coir Board, T M Shaid, alleged that the Congress has caused injustice to the minority communities in the allotment of tickets for the zilla and taluk panchayat elections in the district. He was addressing a press conference held here on Wednesday December 22.

“District Congress minority unit president, Moideen Bawa, seems to be under the impression that getting a ticket for himself for the election is tantamount to giving proper representation to minorities. The minorities account for about 50% of the voters. Bawa has failed in securing proper representation for the minorities here. Hence he should resign from his post,” he demanded.

Shahid pointed out that candidates belonging to minority communities have beenallotted tickets by parties like JDS and SDPI. He alleged that social justice has been given a rough treatment by the Congress, which is evidenced by the fact that only five minority candidates from out of total 35 constituencies have been favoured in the allotment of tickets. He felt that the least one could expect was ten tickets for minority candidates. He said that the party had not given any representation to the minority in Sullia, Puttur, abd Beltangady taluks. He accepted the fact that he too had failed in his efforts to get tickets for candidates hailing from minority communities.

Abdul Majeed, Abdul Rehman, Rashid Jattipalla, Safruddin and some others were present at the press conference.
