Sullia: Sampaje-Madikeri Stretch of Highway Closed Till April

Daijiworld Media Network – Sullia (SP)

Sullia, Dec 21: The process of closing the section of the Mani-Mysore road between Sampaje and Madikeri, which is known as Madikeri Ghat, began on Monday December 20. The road will be closed till the repairs/widening work relating to Mani-Mysore road undertaken by the government, are completed.

Taking into account the wretched condition of the road and the pace of work, this road may not be available for road users till April 2011. Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation will be running mini buses on this stretch till the repairs are completed. All other vehicles have been barred from using this road by an order of the deputy commissioner of Kodagu district, until further orders.

The people who have to visit Madikeri from Sullia can take Baddadka-Karike-Bhagamandala route. The government and private buses moving to Mysore from Mangalore have begun reaching destinations through Hassan at present. A few buses may also take the Bisile Ghat route and reach Mysore through Somwarpet. The fact that no viable alternative routes that are good are available, and also that the detour takes much longer to reach the destinations, has compounded the problems of the passengers.
