Beltangady, Dec 20: The police on Monday December 20 arrested five accused of killing retired teacher P K Perady in Naravi recently.
Two others allegedly with links to the case are yet to be arrested.
Vasanth Poojary (41) of Manjunagara of Naravi village, Suresh Poojary (25), of Subbarottu Mane in Marodi village, his father Shivappa Poojary (52), Ananda Poojary (32), of Karimanelu, Krishnappa Poojary (31) of Rody village are the arrested.
Prime accused in the case Vasanth was arrested near the Karkala bus stand on Monday at 10.30 am. Circle inspector Sudarshan Venur told media persons that others were arrested after a thorough interrogation of Vasanth.
But reports state that the prime accused is not Vasanth but Shivappa Poojary. Perady had entered the house of Shivappa Poojary 25 years ago and stabbed him following some clash in a land dispute.
Shivappa Poojary had taken loan of Rs 15,000 from Perady. In return Perady also made Shivappa Poojary to sign on a blank cheque in which he later entered an amount Rs 2,65,000. Shivappa then had taken legal action and dragged Perady to court. Allegedly, Shivappa was planning to kill Perady over the past one month and took his son Suresh's help and made some more accomplices to execute his plan.
Perady who arrived here from Bangalore by bus on Thursday December 16 morning, was murdered with an iron rod. Prior to this, he had also been hit by a jeep. The vehicle belonging to Vasanth Poojary was found at the spot.
Various cases of rape, sexual harassment, murder attempt, cheque frauds were registered against Perady. A severe protest was held against Perady for harassing a teacher. It is reported that some have even committed suicide due to the torture meted by him. He had also consulted high court in order to remove his name from rowdy list in Venoor police station.
