Mysore, Dec 20: Dr Austin Prabhu of Chicago, USA was honoured by Konkani Christian Association (KCA) for his humanitarian and cultural work in India and in the US on Saturday December 18 during its annual Christmas celebrations at the Pushpanjali Grounds here.
Association president Rotarian and a Congress party activist Gratian Rodrigues felicitated him with a shawl, fruits and a bouquet.
The citation stated, "The Konkani Christian Association (R), Mysore, is extremely delighted to honour and congratulate Dr Austin Prabhu for his lifetime commitment and dedication to the Konkani Culture, Language and Service to Society both in India and abroad. The association recognizes and appreciates his service for the KCA worldwide. The association honours Dr Austin Prabhu as the lifetime achiever for his unique global contribution and promotion of Konkani language, culture and theatre. The KCA (R), Mysore, bestows upon Dr Austin Prabhu the title "Kodyalso Puuth" for his lifelong achievements in India and abroad."

There were Konkani, English and Kannada singing competitions and dance competitions as part of the entertainment. A crowd of more than 1,000 witnessed the programme.
The programme began with a solemn mass celebrated by 14 Carmelite priests. President Gratian Rodrigues welcomed the gathering and secretary John William D'Souza compered. Chief guest Dr Austin Prabhu gave away prizes to all winners and participants and encouraged them to get more involved in activities.
He also mentioned about their project Konkan Bhavan which is already under construction. The president requested all members and guests to contribute generously to this project so that soon the multi-storied Bhavan could be available to community members for their various celebrations. Gratian Rorigues was able to get Rs 50 lac for this project. Konkan Bhavan is one of its kind facility to acommodate Konkani community's programmes.
