Kasargod: KPCC Secretary, Kodoth Govindan Nair, Breathes His Last

Kasargod, Dec 20: Advocate and Congress party leader, Kodoth Govindan Nair (68), who was the general secretary of Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee, breathed his last at Christian Medical College in Vellore on Saturday December 18. He is survived by two daughters.

Nair, who was being treated at a private hospital in Eranakulam since the last about six months for various ailments, had been shifted to Vellore on December 17, after his condition turned worse.

After completing his primary and secondary education in Kozhikode, Nair completed his degree education in Kasargod and secured law degree from Udupi Law College. He had worked as an office bearer of local bar association for several years. He had also worked as the president of Malabar Devaswom Board and state president of Employees Association, besides district president of INTUC, among others.

Nair, a lawyer by profession, was a loyalist of former Kerala Chief Minister, Karunakaran, and had joined Democratic Indira Congress when Karunakaran parted ways with the Congress and floated a new party. When Karunakaran came back to his parent party, Nair followed suit.

Govindan Nair, who had functioned in various organizational positions in the Congress, had hogged limelight, when he revolted against the party diktat and fought in the Rajya Sabha election against party candidate, Vayalar Ravi, in 2003.
